Endolays
Using CADCAM technology it is sometimes possible to construct an inlay or onlay which also incorporates a post and core for when a tooth has had a root treatment and no longer has a nerve inside it. This is called an endolay.
The key advantage of this technique is that a one piece (monoblock) structure is created which is very strong indeed. This is particularly important with root treated teeth that are more at risk of tooth fracture than live teeth with intact nerves.
Both in-surgery technology (CEREC 3D) and dental laboratory based technology (EVEREST) can be used to make endolays.
