Orthodontics FAQs
Can I avoid metal braces?
Q.
I am due to have fixed orthodontic treatment and I really don't want to show metal when I smile during the treatment.
What options are available?
A.
Obviously every case is unique and your suitability for individual treatment options needs to be discussed with your dentist and/or orthodontist.
There are several options for reducing or eliminating the appearance of metal during orthodontic treatment. Invisalign uses clear aligners which are worn over your teeth and which gradually move them into a new position.
Metal brackets used in fixed orthodontics can often be replaced with ceramic clear or white brackets instead. On occasion, the brackets can be placed on the inside of your tooth instead. This is called lingual fixed orthodontics.
