CADCAM Crowns
Computer Aided Design Computer Aided Manufacture (CADCAM) technology is now available in dentistry to allow crowns to be designed and fashioned using highly advanced computer software and milling machines.
Two main groups of CADCAM crown are now available:
Chair-side CADCAM
These CADCAM crowns are actually designed and manufactured with equipment in the dental surgery so that in some cases crowns can be made while you wait in as little as one hour. An example of this technology is Cerec 3D.
Laboratory CADCAM Crown
These CADCAM crowns are made using equipment based at the dental laboratory and so take longer to make than chair-side crowns. The resulting crowns can usually have more options for surface finishing and in many cases can give an even better cosmetic result. An example of this technology is Everest.
