Endodontics, a field in dentistry which deals with the nerve - a sensitive area of the inner portion of the tooth - is a significant form of treatment that has helped millions of patients overcome poor tooth health and, frequently, reduces painful problems. There are several types of treatment that fall under endodontics, the most common procedure being root canal treatment (RCT), also known as a root filling.

This endodontic treatment involves your dentist removing the inflamed, infected or necrotic nerve from inside your tooth, giving the area a careful cleaning and then inserting a root filling material into the root where the nerve originally was. This prevents the tooth root from being exposed, protecting your jaw from possible infection that can enter through the tooth.
