Prosthodontics FAQs
Why should I see a Prosthodontist?
Q.
Most of my teeth are crowned and I have had these for years. My dentist has recommended that I see a prosthodontist because some of my crowns are failing with tooth decay under them. Why do I need to do this?
A.
Every individual case needs to be judged on it merits but it is very likely that your dentist has decided that due to the complex nature of your dental problems, a prosthodontist is the best person to treat you so that you achieve an ideal long term solution. In many cases the fact that many of your teeth are involved means that there is a large amount of interdependence between these teeth and a poor outcome with one could potentially negatively affect the rest. A prosthodontist is experienced in dealing with these complex problems to achieve a good long term outcome.
